REEL BREAKDOWN
1. Chiquito, Short Film - Beco do Batman Set (Brazil, SP)

Created in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, rendered in Arnold, compositing in Nuke, and color graded in DaVinci. The FX were created in Houdini and rendered with Redshift. I'm co-directing this film alongside my teammate Lesley Marroquin. I was able to render from Houdini light passes that helped me build in Nuke the lighting interacting with the environment for the FX. In the close-up, I animated the main green light that represents the lighting coming from the teleportation device.
I wanted to create for the film a real-life place in my home city called Beco do Batman, which is a tourist attraction known for having graffiti murals. My goal was to replicate the atmosphere of the real street in CG.

2. Passion Fruit and Mango Cheesecake

Created in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, rendered in V-Ray, compositing in Nuke, and color graded in DaVinci. I wanted to improve my shading skills with translucent materials and SSS since it has always been one of my biggest struggles in CG. I decided to challenge myself to work on a photorealistic piece, aiming to recreate food. I chose a passion fruit and mango cheesecake because I love passion fruit! It was my first time using V-Ray and compositing mainly with shader AOVs.

3. Chiquito, Short Film - Time-lapse

Created in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, rendered in Arnold, compositing in Nuke. This is one of the shots in my thesis film, "Chiquito"! It was fun facing this challenge of working on a time-lapse sequence where the lighting changes from morning to afternoon. I created three base lightings for this shot: morning, noon, and afternoon. After making sure all the colors and contrasts looked coherent, I animated the lights and made sure the transition between each time of the day was natural.

4. Intrepid, Short Film

"Persepolis" is a CG film directed by Ausar Johnson. I worked on this project as a lighter. The lighting I worked on for this shot was later also used as a rig for some of the shots in the same scene.

5. Persepolis, Short Film

"Persepolis" is a CG film directed by Jessica Kiev. I worked on this project as a lighter, working closely with the director and other lighters in the team to make sure the shots would match and follow the same color pattern in the final cut of the film.

6. Open Mind Open Heart, Short Film

"Open Mind Open Heart" is a film directed by Avery Pendleton. I worked on this project as a lighter and also helped with some environment textures. I created the lighting rigs used in both environments in the film and was also responsible for some shot lighting.

7. Aquí, Short Film

"Aquí" is a stop motion and CG film directed by Anabella Gonzalez. I worked on this project as a lighter, where I was able to work with two different mediums, using the physical lighting in the puppets as a reference to match and blend the CG environment with the footage.

8. Steampunk Props

Created in Maya, textured in Substance Painter and Designer, and rendered in Arnold. The assets were downloaded from Substance 3D Assets. I was responsible for set dressing, texturing, and lighting. The main goal I had with this project was to create a realistic piece. Since I usually tend to do very colorful projects, I wanted to step away from that and try the opposite!

9. Chiquito, Short Film - El Salvador Set (Puente Arce)

Created in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, rendered in Arnold, compositing in Nuke, and color graded in DaVinci. This is another shot that is part of my thesis film! These two shots take place in El Salvador and are the other two sets that are part of the film. In this short, we wanted to showcase Brazilian and Salvadoran cultures through a unique lens, using a vibrant color palette. When I was developing the visuals for the film, my goal was to contrast both locations, showcasing visually the diversity of Latino cultures!
