REEL BREAKDOWN
1. "Chiquito" Short Film - Timelapse

Created in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, rendered in Arnold, compositing in Nuke. This is one of the shots in my thesis film, "Chiquito"! I'm co-directing this film alongside my teammate Lesley Marroquin. It was fun facing this challenge of working on a timelapse sequence where the lighting changes from morning to afternoon. I created three base lightings for this shot: morning, noon and afternoon. After making sure all the colors and contrasts looked coherent I animated the lights and made sure the transition between each time of the day was natural.

2. "Chiquito" Short Film - Beco do Batman Set (Brazil, SP)

Created in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, rendered in Arnold, compositing in Nuke. This is another shot that is part of my thesis film, "Chiquito"! I wanted to create for the film a real life place in my home city called Beco do Batman, this a touristic place that is known for having graffiti murals. I feel like this place represents a lot of what the city embraces artistically since it's a street that brings together street art that can be found all over the city. My goal was to replicate the atmosphere of the real street in CG.

2. "Chiquito" Short Film - Teleportation FX

Created in Maya and Houdini, textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Arnold and Redshift and compositing in Nuke. I started working on some basic scripts for the FX during summer where I was able to develop the globe simulation in the device. I animated a noise and used a SOP and VOP networks to add the particles in the surface and tweak their look. I created the body particles with three layers of simulation. I did a spread simulation in Houdini using the mesh's position and then had two layers of particles. One that follows the same path as the spread and another one that I used a VOP network to add some noise to break up the edges of the mask.

6. Gabriela Carvalho

Created in Maya and Marvelous Designer, textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Arnold. This is Gabriela Carvalho, the first human character I ever modeled! I did her character design Junior Year, when I was creating a personal thesis idea "PIXO" where she was the main character. I wanted to do a project to go through the pipeline of developing a character. I was able to get familiar with Advanced Skeleton since that's how I rigged her body and face and also learn Marvelous Designer! Once I have time I want to revisit this project to try a little bit of character animation.

6. "Chiquito" Short Film - El Salvador Set (Puente Arce)

Created in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, rendered in Arnold, compositing in Nuke. This is another shot that is part of my thesis film, "Chiquito"! These two shots take place in El Salvador and are the other two sets are part of the film. For the outdoors, it was important for me to keep the intrinsic and unique designs the bars in door and windows have in El Salvador, which is also a key element of the lighting in the film. As for the indoors I wanted to make sure her workshop felt lived in and full of tools that would also show key elements of her personality and work habits.
